Wisconsin Cattlewomen’s Association’s
First Annual Meeting
The Wisconsin Cattlewomen would like to announce their
incorporation
as the Wisconsin Cattlewomen’s Association, Inc. as of October. The
first
annual meeting will be held on Friday, February 16, at 4:00 p.m., at the
Deer Valley Lodge in Barneveld in conjunction with Winter Ag Conference.
Director elections will be held and 2007 activities will be planned. Nominations
will be taken from the floor and suggestions for 2007 activities are welcome
and are sure to make this coming year an exciting one.
So, who are the Wisconsin Cattlewomen? And what do they do?
Prior to the incorporation, the Cattlewomen operated as a council within the Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association.
Currently, the Wisconsin Cattlewomen’s Association is made up of a very small group of women who live in different parts of the state and became acquainted because of their love of farming. Their activities in their home towns with 4-H, FFA, and local beef and dairy promotion associations prompted their desire to explore additional activities to promote agriculture in Wisconsin.
Interest from young women in the Cattlewomen’s Association has increased due to the Wisconsin Cattlewomen’s Scholarship Program, as well as publicity from the American National CattleWomen’s (ANCW) Beef Cookoff and National Beef Ambassador Programs.
In addition to the Scholarship Program, the Cattlewomen
have important roles in agricultural events such as Winter Ag Conference
in February, the Beef Tent at Wisconsin Farm Technology Days, and Beef
Day at Wisconsin State Fair. They have a representative on the Wisconsin
Beef Council and work in the Steak Trailer.
The incorporation provides an opportunity to expand on scholarships and
youth education, beef promotion and legislation activities. The first fund-raising
event was to manage the Wisconsin Cattlewomen’s Steak Trailer at
World Dairy Expo. A silent auction will be held during Winter Ag Expo to
benefit the Cattlewomen’s and Cattlemen’s scholarship programs.
Three women have been appointed as Directors prior to the annual meeting.
